Topcon Sponsors Power Lunch at Vision Expo East
|
Topcon Medical Systems, Inc. (TMS), of Paramus, NJ, recently sponsored a Power Lunch at the International Vision Expo East meeting in New York City. The lunch entitled “How to Evaluate and Adopt New Technology” was held on Saturday, March 24th from 12 to 1 PM. The keynote speaker was Dr. Gary Gerber, a well-renowned practice-building consultant in the optometry field. Dr. Gerber spoke on the importance of incorporating the latest technology into one’s practice, the operational efficiencies that can be derived from it, and the thought process that should be involved when making new equipment purchases. Dr. Gerber showed how each new equipment purchase must be evaluated from both a clinical and a financial perspective. He explained the steps a practitioner should take to determine if an instrument is the most clinically appropriate tool for his/her practice. Dr. Gerber also discussed the different financing options available when making new equipment purchases. Dr. Gerber touched on three main product areas: non-mydriatic fundus cameras/retinal screening, automated refraction systems, and image management software. In the area of automated refraction, Dr. Gerber demonstrated how products like Topcon’s CV-5000 can increase an optometrist’s speed, throughput, and ergonomics, while reducing the likelihood of repetitive stress syndrome. In the area of networking, Dr. Gerber discussed EyeRoute™, an image management software system from Topcon that integrates images and reports from various ophthalmic instruments into a single, secure, digital environment. Dr. Gerber showed how acquiring such equipment can improve communication with patients, reduce labor to pull charts, and lead to a less cluttered office. This can directly impact the perception patients have of a practice, and consequently the faith they have in a practitioner’s clinical abilities. The Power Lunch was an enjoyable and educational event for all attendees.
